Guy Ludlum, who was managing the project, took the advice of the fire officer when they recommended Automist Smartscan as a solution. The solution required one pump for each of the 40 studios, which meant each individual unit had its own independent system. The small size of the pumps meant that minimal space was taken up by the install in each apartment.
Automist was selected because if Smartscan was activated, it causes very little damage and clean up to the affected room, keeping repair costs to a minimum. This is important to consider in student accommodation. The intelligent double knock activation also reduces the likelihood of false alarms.
