Water mist fire suppression for residential care retrofit

Automist improves fire prevention for residents in extra care, sheltered housing, and assisted living

Fire safety in care homes must take top priority to ensure the well-being of all residents, staff and visitors.

Accidental house fires are most likely to harm those unable to escape. Age-related frailty and mental and physical impairment limit reaction time and can make exiting difficult.

With an ageing population and rising dementia rates, social landlords and care providers must find new strategies to protect vulnerable residents and future-proof their houses so they are safe regardless of risk profile.

Automist protects at-risk individuals from accidental residential care home fires.

Improved protection for residential care residents

A rising number of sheltered and supported housing providers are embracing Automist since a typical fire alarm system cannot address the fire risk.

All fire safety is about time. Automist operates 2.0 to 14 times faster than a concealed sprinkler as it has an effective RTI of 20 m½s½ and C factor of 0.25 m½s-½. This significantly impacts its ability to aid means of escape, especially as smoke is the most critical risk in domestic fires.

How Automist Works

Low disruption installation

Expand All

Automist has been developed specifically to improve protection for vulnerable residents who may not react appropriately or be able to easily escape from a fire

Automist can be installed or retrofitted with minimal disruption to residents and the fabric of the building, as sprayheads are wall mounted and connected using flexible hoses

Automist’s modular nature means it can be fitted on a flat-by-flat basis to prioritise installation and protect the most vulnerable or highest risk residents first

Connecting to the normal domestic water supply, there’s no need for a tank or water main upgrade – so it's cost-effective to retrofit and practical where water supply or pressue is an issue

Automist offers industry standard performance, using 90% less water, minimising consequential water damage, and the scale and cost of remedial work, if the system is activated. Learn more about lifetime value.
