HAT-TRICK FOR PLUMIS IN AWARDS SHORTLIST
OCTOBER 4th, 2022
Plumis has been announced as finalists in both the 2022 Build It Awards and Security & Fire Excellence Awards.
The fire suppression manufacturer has been shortlisted in the Security & Fire Excellence Awards, Fire Innovation of the Year category in recognition of its DINLab discovery programme with the Disruptive Innovators Network (DIN).
Plumis’ DINLab set out to explore how innovation can further improve resident safety, make asset management more efficient, improve resident safety and health, as well as reduce operating costs.
As part of the project, Plumis installed its Automist system in homes managed by Thorngate Churcher Trust, Worthing Homes, mhs Homes and Loreburn Housing Association. Each of the social housing providers sought an affordable solution which would cause minimal disruption to retrofit in order to implement actions resulting from fire risk assessments and Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans – without jeopardising safety.
In addition, Plumis and its Automist-approved installer Vapourmist has been shortlisted for Active/Passive Fire Project of the Year for its work to protect Fifield Barn – a Grade II listed building that was being converted into a contemporary five-bedroom home across two-storeys.
Constructed from red and glazed brick, with a clay tile roof and a veranda running along the rear of the property featuring four sets of aluminium doors, building control recommended the installation of a fire suppression system to protect the home’s means of escape.
Determined to fulfil their open plan dreams for the barn, whilst retaining as much of the original structure as possible, the barn’s owners selected Automist for its discreet design and ability to be retrofitted whilst renovation works were underway.
The homeowners were also pleased to learn that the system uses 90% less water than a traditional fire suppression system, meaning subsequent water damage following an activation is also reduced.
The work carried out at Fifield Barn has also been named as a finalist in Build It’s Best Home Technology Product or Installation category.
“From enabling open plan designs to futureproofing homes to meet the changing needs of residents, we’re really proud of what we’ve been able to achieve with our watermist suppression technology,” said Yusuf Muhammad, co-founder and chief design officer at Plumis.
“Being shortlisted for these three awards demonstrates the breadth and capability of our technology, as well as our commitment to continuously innovating to ensure our system is not just fit for purpose to enhance fire protection but is also able to further improve people’s lives.”
Winners for the Security & Fire Excellence Awards will be announced on 23 November, followed by the Build It Awards on 25 November.
