Providing compensatory protection when fire service access is difficult
When Automist is used to meet building regulations, the purpose and coverage requirement is often defined in a guidance document Approved Document B (as a replacement for a BS 9251 system), BS 9991 or a fire engineering report.
Approved Document B proposes that fire service vehicle access should be achieved to within 45m of the furthest point in the dwelling when measured from the fire appliance's parking position. It is not uncommon for compact developments for ideal access to be impossible to achieve and therefore Automist offers a reasonable and cost-effective alternative solution. When the system is used in this way as a compensatory measure, it should be supported by a fire engineering report from a chartered engineer.
