Providing compensatory protection when fire service access is difficult
Suppose any part of a building is over 45 m from the nearest point that a fire appliance can reach. In that case, B5 of the building regulations requires that automatic fire suppression is installed throughout the property. It is not uncommon in compact infill developments or blocks of flats that ideal access is impossible to achieve.
