Why was BS 8458:2015 withdrawn and replaced by BS EN 14972-17:2025?
When a new European Standard is published, BSI is obligated to withdraw any conflicting British Standards. This is why BS 8458:2015 was withdrawn following the publication of BS EN 14972-17:2025.
This change is primarily procedural: BSI must ensure that British Standards do not conflict with harmonised European Standards. The withdrawal of BS 8458 does not imply that the systems designed under it are unsafe or non-compliant, it simply reflects the transition to the latest European framework for water mist systems.
“It should not be inferred simply from the withdrawal of BS 8458:2015 that products manufactured to the standard or certification schemes developed to the standard can no longer be used or recognised.”
