PLUMIS ACHIEVES UL CERTIFICATION FOR AUTOMIST: A BREAKTHROUGH IN HOME FIRE SAFETY

NOVEMBER 11TH, 2024

Plumis proudly announce that Automist has become the world’s first targeted residential water mist fire protection system to gain third-party certification under UL2167A.

This achievement for Automist represents a new era in residential fire protection, following seven years of dedicated research and development, plus an investment of $6 million from Plumis.

It also marks one of the most rigorous testing processes ever undertaken in home fire suppression, paving the way for Automist’s adoption internationally in line with the NFPA 750 standard for water mist fire protection systems.

The Automist system underwent a comprehensive suite of tests to attain UL Certification. Each component - from the targeting spray nozzle to the strainer, valves, pump, motor, and control units – were examined against multiple UL standards, including UL 2167A, the Outline of Investigation for Targeting Water Mist System Units for One and Two-Family Dwellings for Fire Protection Service and UL 268 for smoke detectors. This robust testing further demonstrates Automist’s compliance, safety and reliability in residential applications.

William Makant, Plumis CEO, said: "This breakthrough builds on the success of the UK version of the product, which has already been installed in over 14,000 homes following extensive fire engineering research and has been independently verified for compliance with BS 8458.

“Now the US version of the product has the evidence to demonstrate it is fit for purpose in regions that utilise the International Fire Code. It will be available in North America exclusively through Ferguson Fire & Fabrication, the largest value-added distributor for fire protection contractors and engineers. This is testament to Plumis investing in exceeding the requirements of the regulations in each territory it enters."

Kerry Bell, Principal Engineer and Corporate Fellow at UL Solutions, added: “Using hazard-based safety engineering principles, we developed an Outline of Investigation to evaluate and certify this new technology from Plumis. We are delighted that Plumis turned to us to certify a product that helps advance fire safety.”
